About Dave
A Rutland guy.
Born in Rutland. Almost all of my 73 years spent here. Now asking to serve again — as an Independent, on behalf of the county that raised me.

I have always been a Rutland guy. That might sound corny, but that's who I am. I have lived here almost all of my 73 years — as a student, a teacher, a principal, a superintendent, a senator, a college president, and an assistant judge. I am running for the State Senate again because I have failed retirement, and because I would like to keep paying it forward.
I was gratefully elected as your Rutland County State Senator 38 years ago. Very simply, I would like to continue what I have always hoped would be a purposeful, transformational life. I want to be more impactful. I want to truly make a meaningful difference for Rutland and for Vermont — spanning six decades of public service, with your help.
I run as an Independent because I am one. For the last three years I have served as an Independent Rutland County Assistant Judge. I have learned firsthand about the more recent struggles that challenge people in their everyday lives.
I have become out of step with the loud voices on the far left and the far right. I make decisions as an independent thinker, and I do not want to be beholden to a political action committee or a political party. That is why I will not accept campaign contributions from either. There will be no negative campaigning, just a focus on the important issues.
I've officiated forty-three weddings — mostly for friends and former students. Nine grandchildren keep me honest. And every chapter of it on the same stretch of valley.
